Our April excursion took us on a visit to a hidden gem in southwest Detroit. Tucked into the Aviation Subdivision neighborhood - a history lesson in itself - is the home and next-door studio of Dolores Slowinski. Dolores and her husband live in a classic bungalow and Dolores and her fiber studio live next door in an almost identical bungalow! Imagine walking through the door into a “living room” alive with fibers and threads and stitching and flanked at one end by a cozy seating area warmed by a fireplace and shelves of books on art and textiles. We were in love! Three bedrooms filled with more books and yarns and a loom completed our trip to every needle artist’s fantasy land. And Dolores made it an even more spectacular visit with her generous discussion of her background and her work. We learned so much - and left only wanting more! Her work is exquisite and her methods of achieving it are inspiring. A lovely lunch with Dolores at Al-Ameer topped off our visit.
